Tuesday Talks: The Last Days of NaNo

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say a quick good luck to all those participating in NaNaWriMo. We’re down to the last two days and I know people are trying to get as many words written as they can over the next few hours.

Whether you hit 50,000 or not, I’m proud of us; those who pushed through busy schedules, lack of motivation, having no plan for your story when you started, and the days you didn’t feel like writing at all. We’ve made it to the end.

Since this is my first experience with fully participating in NaNoWriMo, it took some getting used to it. I took me some time to fall into a groove. I won’t be hitting 50,000 by the end of the day tomorrow, but I will continue until I finish my novelette. Even though I won’t be declaring myself a “winner” and getting myself a “winner” shirt, I’m happy that I’ve made the progress I did.

While I love the idea behind NaNoWriMo, I realized about mid month that November probably isn’t the best month for me to do it. With my birthday (which I celebrated multiple times with different groups) and Thanksgiving the very next week, the later half of the month is quite hectic for me. Friends are trying to do things with me to celebrate and then family is town. Food needed to be cooked and things cleaned. It was exhausting. Maybe next year I’ll have to start early so I can be done before my birthday. We’ll see!

Any writing revelations this month? Anyone else not hitting 50,000 and in need of a virtual hug?

Happy writing folks!

Kira Elise

It was my first, too, and I went into it with the idea that I was just going to write 500 words a day and see what happened. I hit 20,000 words and got a great start to my novel and am continuing along at my slowish pace, but satisfied that I started. I wouldn’t have started without NaNo. Good luck on finishing!
